Few authors have achieved the notoriety of the great William Shakespeare. Even 400 years after his death, the legacy of his prose continues. Now, Montblanc, a legend of its own in the world of craft writing utensils, is honoring the Bard with its Writers Edition William Shakespeare pen.
The course of love never did run smooth, but the ink of Montblanc’s newest pen surely will. The special edition utensil features a black and white precious resin combination on the cap and barrel, which pays homage to the flags flown above Shakespeare’s theater.
Additionally, the unique feather-like pattern draws from the look of a quill pen the iconic writer is said to have used. The pen’s cap also pays tribute to the playwright, with a design meant to remind users of the Globe theater.
Montblanc has also released an additional pen, the William Shakespeare Limited Edition 1597, which specifically honors “Romeo and Juliet” and its year of publication. Naturally, the limited-edition series will only contain 1597 pieces.
Even the gold-plated rings encircling the pens are detailed, with each ring being embossed with seven symbols, each representing one of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays. In addition to obvious style elements meant to honor the famous author, each pen also sports a Tudor-era design element in blue, black, gold, or royal red.
Customers will also be able to purchase matching circular cufflinks, both of which feature the Tudor rose. While the white and black of the Globe’s flags where meant to symbolize comedy and tragedy, the only response once could have to this intricately crafted collection is awe.
