When Sacramento-based commercial real-estate developer John Saca purchased an $8.5 million, 1.1-acre property in Beverly Hills three years ago, he was determined to build a home that would stand out in a market where all-white-everything was the norm. Now, the “modern barn”-inspired compound he’s commissioned can be yours for a cool $48 million, but rest assured: the 15,000-square-foot property is no rundown farmhouse.
The barn inspiration instead takes flight by way of subtle wood accents: board-formed walls of darkly stained cedar pressed into concrete and about $2.5 million-worth of teak adorning the glass sliding doors and soffit ceilings.
The newly completed home holds six bedrooms as well as seven full- and three half-bathrooms, with a guest house attached by an 850-square-foot art gallery. In the gallery, you’ll find works by pop art icon Andy Warhol, contemporary conceptual artist Damien Hirst and the collection’s centerpiece, a Pablo Picasso sketch entitled Fumeur à la Cigarette Rouge valued at $110,000. While the artwork isn’t included in the price, it is also available for sale. The rest of the house’s contents—including Italian furniture and a full bar inventory—are part of the deal.
The master suite includes floor-to-ceiling corner windows, a walk-in closet with custom built-ins and an ample bath with separate steam shower and a contemporary tub, while the enormous open plan center area features a formal dining room set off, by two distinct fireplaces, from separate living areas, one of which opens to the marble and cedar kitchen and includes one of the home’s three bars.
Among the house’s other luxe amenities is a 210-foot pool with an infinity edge, a number of glass-fronted terraces, an outdoor entertaining pavilion, a home theater with seating for an astounding 22 people and a wine room.
