At all of the car shows this year, car companies have made it clear that the future of cars is autonomy. Now one Mercedes-Benz designer has presented his case for a model that makes its way back to us through the looking glass of time.

Dubbed the Mercedes-Benz Concept Digital Core, the concept was designed by Daimler AG’s lead designer Gorden Wagener for German magazine Auto Bild. The Concept Digital Core, like the Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100 that it is a response to, will feature full autonomous driving and complete connectivity.

The fastback concept boasts a futuristic design based off of Mercedes-Benz’s Concept IAA. The autonomous drive system will utilize cameras and sensors throughout the vehicle that send their information through an expansive fiber optics system to control the driving experience.

Only time will tell whether or not Wagener’s vision for the future of Mercedes-Benz comes true or not, but dreaming about riding in the Concept Digital Core is something fans of the German automaker can do right now.
