There are many headphones that achieve high-end ranking on the market today. Overlooking special music listening devices is easy to do, but it’s nearly impossible in the case of the new Focal Utopia headphones.
Focal, the top-selling speaker brand in France, has become known for its high-quality sound devices, and its new Utopia headphones’ tones are deeper and crisper than ever before.
The open-back, over-the-ear Utopia headphones will be the first headphones in the world to feature beryllium dome drivers. While the company has utilized beryllium tweeters in its speakers for a long time, it took their team of engineers four years to develop and manufacture such a headphone driver.
Packing 80 ohms and an ultra-high sensitivity of 104 dB/1 mW, these headphones aren’t necessarily light, weighing in at a little more than a pound, but to counteract the weight, Focal has given the ear pads and headband copious amounts of padding to make the phones comfortable for long-term wearing.
The Utopia also comes with a 13-foot long cable, so listeners will have plenty of room for rocking out.
Focal’s headphones, including the Utopia, are now on sale in North America. The Utopia sells for $3,999, while Focal’s cheaper options include the $249 Listen headphones.
