Camera brand Nikon has just added its newest telephoto lens to its full-frame lens lineup.

The AF-S 105mm f/1.4E is a medium-telephoto portrait lens that blends the compression of the 105mm focal length with the ultra-shallow depth of field of an f/1.4 aperture. This isn’t just any new lens though. It is the first lens to combine the two unique features.

“The AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED represents the embodiment of the Nikkor line of high-quality lenses, giving photographers a robust, well-balanced lens that provides intense sharpness, astounding image quality, and background bokeh that is sure to be a favorite among portrait photographers,” said Kosuke Kawaura, Nikon director of marketing and planning.

Designed for the professional photog, the new lens offers high resolving power at all apertures and was created to capture beautiful images with a nine-bladed aperture diaphragm for circular blur patterns.

Additional features include a new electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism for more accurate exposures, incredible low-light performance, and an excellent seal to protect against dust and moisture.

A bit wider than older models and eschewing vibration reduction because of its ultra-fast aperture speed, Nikon’s telephoto lens is available for $2,200 and will ship this August.
