Ball’s new BMW GMT Limited Edition timepiece is of course a fine example of watchmaking paired with cues from the automotive industry, but it also is revolutionizing the way luxury watches are sold with its new pre-order sales process.

The BMW badges on the special timepiece are neatly hidden away, yet clear as day, with a small circle BMW logo near the date window on the watch face and another located on the caseback.

Coming in a 42mm wide case, the BMW GMT is large enough without going over the top, sort of like BMW’s cars. Wearers also get more bang for their buck with a super-thin bezel that allows as much space as possible for the dial to ensure optimal readability.

The watch pictured here is a prototype featuring a black dial, strap, and DLC black case, which is basically the murdered out version of a timepiece. And while the outside might not be a finished product, the inside movement is anything but unrefined with a Ball caliber RR1201-C automatic movement that has a COSC Chronometer certification and a two-day power reserve.

Though this will be a limited edition watch of up to 1,000 examples, Ball is changing the game by offering a pre-order for the model and will give customers the option of custom laser engraving the caseback and the option of choosing the limited edition number.

When the BMW GMT Limited Edition hits stores in November, they will retail for $2,990. But if customers are convinced they want one now, the special timepiece can be bought for a pre-order price of $1,690.
