Back in June, American Luxury covered the $100,000/month rental listing of Gianni Versace’s former New York City townhouse.

The home has yet to find an occupant, and the current owner, Swedish hedge fund manager Thomas Sandell, has gotten proactive, chopping the price by about a third, to $65,000 a month. The late fashion designer originally purchased the 35-foot-wide Lennox Hill mansion for $7.5 million in 1995. In 2005, it was sold to Sandell for $30 million. Most recently, it received a valuation of $36 million. The home was originally designed by Irving Margon, the architect famous for the Eldorado building at Central Park West.

With a façade of limestone and six stories connected by sweeping staircase and personal elevator, the mansion holds five bedrooms and six bathrooms and sports an Italian Baroque interior theme, as designed by MSM Architects and Laboratorio Associati during Versace’s tenure as owner—including marble, mosaic and Austrian parquet floors, gold detailing and opulent columns, chandeliers and intricately painted ceilings throughout the building.

Also included in the 14,000-square-foot home are an open foyer with intricate plasterwork, an oversized art gallery, a study and separate library, a formal living room and a Moroccan-inspired media room with skylight and roof deck access. Every floor also includes a rear balcony overlooking a walled garden, while the master suite features a sunken Jacuzzi tub, a sitting room and a wet bar.

Situated between Madison and 5th Avenue at 64th Street, the home is just steps away from Central Park and New York’s famous luxury shopping district along 5th Avenue. A nice place to be whether you’re a world-renowned fashion designer or just a shopaholic.
