The 4K-Capable, 2TB Xbox One S Will Ship in August

At E3 in June Microsoft unleashed the Xbox One S, a slimmer and updated version of its premier video game console, and the tech mogul has unveiled its plans to reveal the system early with a “launch edition” of the One S that will hit shelves August 2.

The much slighter console replaces what was a pretty large system in the original Xbox One. The only downside to buying the slender One S immediately is that it will initially only be available in the 2 TB storage version. Xbox One S models with smaller storage specs and thus smaller price tags will eventually be available, but it isn’t known when Microsoft will give budget gamers looking to upgrade that choice.

Users looking to use the Kinect motion sensor for controller-free gaming will also need to buy a $40 adapter to use the device. Owners of an Xbox One and Kinect will have an option to get this adapter for free, but it seems like a slight flaw that something so important to the franchise just a couple of years ago isn’t integrated.

Microsoft also has its 4K-capable, VR-ready Project Scorpio Xbox One hitting shelves next fall, so those looking to make the one-time switch might want to wait another year to upgrade their Microsoft consoles.
