Richard Mille has given watch collectors a reason to hand their wallets and souls over thanks to its new RM 50-27-01 Suspended Tourbillon Special Edition, which will be a super limited-edition model that will be sold only in the Swiss company’s U.S. based shops.
The RM 50-27-01 boasts Richard Mille’s oft-used tonneau-shaped case and is manufactured from NTPT (North Thin Ply Technology) carbon. NTPT is an incredibly sturdy and ultra-light material crafted out of thin layers of woven carbon and resin that can be made into nearly any shape.
It even features a top-grained finish that looks like wood, as is the case for the new RM 50-27-01 Suspended Tourbillon Special Edition.
Richard Mille has also given the RM 50-27-01 an impressive movement, which is actually the same used in the RM 27-01 Rafael Nadal timepiece that also recently came out of the Swiss brand’s workshops.
The RM 27-01 movement is a manually wound tourbillon caliber that comes with a 45-hour power reserve, and in the case of the Suspended Tourbillon Special Edition, the tourbillion has been suspended by four 0.35mm braided steel cables that attach to the baseplate via pulleys on all four corners. If all of that sounds intense for a timepiece with a case that measures in at only 15.5 mm thick, it is.
Only five examples of the Richard Mille watch will be available for purchase, and each comes with an $800,000 price tag.
