Johnny Depp is still in the thick of a nasty divorce from Amber Heard. Earlier this month, American Luxury covered Depp’s sale of two Jean-Michel Basquiat artworks—to the tune of $11.6 million—to help fund the proceedings. Depp took in another $3 million for 6 more Basquiats, but he’s still not finished liquidating, and he’s going big.
Last week, Depp relisted his compound outside the French resort town of Saint-Tropez for a staggering sum of $55.5 million—more than double the $26 million asking price from his original 2015 listing. The 37-acre property, a former village with over a dozen buildings, includes several guest cottages, a restaurant with a complete industrial kitchen, a garage, a laundry building and a village square. One of the guesthouses is in a former church, complete with a confessional booth-cum wardrobe closet.
The 4,300 square foot main house includes five bedrooms, an art studio, a wine cave with a “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme, two swimming pools, a gym and a skate park for Depp’s son.
Depp originally purchased the property in 2000 and reportedly poured about $10 million into restorations and updates, spending a substantial amount of time there with former partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children.
A number of billionaires have expressed interest in the compound.
Depp’s estimated $400 million fortune is likely to take a serious hit when all is said and done with his divorce. He and Heard reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement.
