The UEFA European Championships recently concluded in France, and Iceland’s national team made a splash by cruising to the country’s first ever quarter-final. To celebrate the run, Iceland-based JS Watch Company has released a limited-edition model called the Euro MMXVI.
In the same fashion as all of JS Watch Co.’s timepieces, the Euro MMXVI features top-of-the-line Swiss ETA movements and 316L stainless steel from Germany that are brought in for design and assembly to the brand’s Reykjavik shop.
The watch dial comes in the same blue as the Icelandic National Team’s jerseys with a complementary red second hand made to look like the team’s jerseys and the Icelandic flag.
Another nod to Strákarnir okkar (Our boys) is the script and Arabic numerals, which use the same font as the names and numbers on the back of the team’s jerseys.
Those wanting to get their hands—well, wrists—on the Euro MMXVI will need to spend about $2,400.
Not only was the Euro 2016 the first time Iceland journeyed to the European Championships, it was also the first major tournament the small island nation of 330-plus thousand residents qualified for. Strákarnir okkar lost to the eventual runner-up and hosts, France, by a margin of 5-2, but that exit followed Iceland’s shocking 2-1 win over England in the Round of 16.
