McLaren already one-upped itself when it came out with a track-only version of its P1, the P1 GTR. But now UK-based tuner Lanzante has unveiled the McLaren P1 LM, which is a road-going version of McLaren’s track-only version of its top-selling road car.

Lanzante has a close relationship with the British sports car maker, and the P1 LM is derived from the limited edition, road-legal F1 LM that the tuner based on the F1 GTR Lanzante ran for McLaren that won Le Mans in 1995.

Changing the P1 GTR into a road-going car isn’t as easy as throwing a couple of license plates on the front and back. Lanzante had to tweak the engine to work with 99-octane fuel that owners can get at a regular pump.

But Lanzante was able to make sure the hybrid powertrain in the P1 LM makes the same 986 horsepower as its track-only sibling. The tuner has also kept the same Race Active Chassis Control system from McLaren, but it has given it a new set of wheels and tires.

Lanzante has also made a couple of other changes to the P1 GTR to make its P1 LM over 130 pounds lighter, and all of the versions of the tuned-up car will be tested at the Nürburgring.

Lanzante debuted the P1 LM with a prototype edition at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed and is set to make only five more examples of the supercar. The P1 GTR has a price tag in the ballpark of $2 million, so it can be expected that Lanzante’s model costs upwards of that number.
