The reported price on Matt Lauer and wife Annette’s purchase of Richard Gere’s Sag Harbor estate keeps going up. The Lauers paid $36.5 million for the six-acre Strongheart Manor, up $3.5 million dollars from earlier reports.
What’s a piddling 3 million bucks mean on a purchase this big? Well, that’s nearly the price of the Southampton home Lauer has now put on the market. It may be small by comparison to the new place, but at $4 million, this Cape Cod-style house is no slouch either.
The place fits three bedrooms, two baths, a cozy living room with vaulted ceiling, kitchen and dining room into about 1,800 square feet. Soothing interiors of bleached wood and sea blue help give the rooms a deceptively spacious feeling, and the rough-hewn beams in the living room give a rustic feel.
It’ll be a small dent in the Lauers’ Hamptons land holdings. In addition to Gere’s former estate, the couple own at least two more properties in the area: a 25-acre property just north of Water Mill and a 40-acre equestrian farm.
In Manhattan, the Lauers’ Upper East Side co-op—purchased in 2004 for $6 million—is in the same building as Bernie Madoff’s former penthouse.
