Aston Martin’s new Vantage GT12 is as track driving monster version of the British brand’s V12 Vantage that comes with less interior luxuries and more power.
The Vantage GT12 is Aston Martin’s answer to Porsche’s 911 GT3. It was even dubbed the Vantage GT3 before the German carmaker protested the name.
Most of the time the track-only cars companies make aren’t drop tops, but the Vantage GT12 Roadster specially built by Aston Martin’s Q division is a unique one-off that made its first-ever appearance at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed late last month.
That being said, the interior is a little nicer than the average GT12 coupe version that Aston usually pumps out, with more Alcantara and leather than carbon fiber in the natural-breeze version.
Aston Martin has given the bespoke Vantage GT12 Roadster the 6.0-liter V12 engine that comes in virtually all of its vehicles. In the convertible track-only GT12, this power plant makes 592 horsepower that is sent through a 7-speed automatic transmission and makes its exit via a titanium exhaust system.
Warwick-based Aston Martin has no plans to give the drop-top GT12 a full production run, but the company is open to making as many customized versions of its cars as there are buyers who want them.
