The Los Angeles home once owned by the late American musician Frank Zappa is now available for $5.495 million.
This home has received quite a bit of attention in the past few months as actor and filmmaker Alex Winter launched a Kickstarter campaign to try to buy the Hollywood Hills compound. Although the campaign raised more than one million dollars, it fell short of the $9 million needed to purchase the home and fund a new Zappa bio-documentary.
Zappa purchased the impressive estate in 1968 for only $74,000, and the main residence currently spans 6,759 square feet with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The faux-Tudor style home dates back to the late 1930s and sports unique features like an airy kitchen with a vaulted ceiling, formal living and dining rooms, a library, and several lounges/office areas.
The impressive home has a variety of unique features like a dragon mural in the formal dining room, porthole windows from salvaged submarines, a double-heigh art gallery with parquet flooring, and a recording studio.
Zappa was a successful and influential self-taught experimental musician who released more than 60 albums in his life. He passed from prostate cancer at the age of 52 back in 1993.
