Ford hasn’t even started delivering its new GT, but the American automaker is already working to create special editions of the vehicle.
It may sound a little ridiculous, but when the reason is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the GT’s first-ever Le Mans victory in the #2 GT driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, Ford can be excused.
In tribute to Ford’s 1966 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it will produce a limited number of the GT model called the ’66 Heritage Edition.
The special edition only changes the new GT’s aesthetics, with a black matte or gloss paint job, silver stripes, exposed carbon fiber, and 20-inch satin gold wheels with black lug nuts. The Heritage Edition also features #2 GT graphics on the hood and door and a serialized identification plate for the special edition.
The interior is swathed in black leather with gold accents on the instrument panel, paddles, and the seat’s bracing.
Ford has good timing, too, since the Heritage Edition model comes fresh off the heels of the Ford GT winning its class in its first appearance at the iconic race in decades.
Ford has limited the ’66 Heritage Edition to 2017 GTs, with only a small number of examples set to be built.
