Breitling’s line-up just got a little bit darker with their introduction of the Navitimer 46 Blacksteel. The Swiss manufacturer’s been enamored with the black-out look for the last few years, with carbon-swathed models like the Avenger Blackbird and the Super Avenger Military Limited. The Navitimer 46 Blacksteel has a steel case with black carbon added, which would explain the portmanteau.

In addition to darker, the Navitimer also got bigger, with a 46 mm case. The sapphire crystal case is treated with a cambered anti-reflective coating, and the back also features a sapphire display so you can see the blackened winding rotor in action.

Divers will love that the Navitimer Blacksteel is water-resistant to 30 meters and features a rotating bezel to keep track of time spent underwater (or time before your parking meter is up), and a circular slide rule will help with airborne navigation.

Breitling developed the 47-jewel movement in-house and gave it a power reserve of 70 hours. Breitling’s Caliber 01 movements are chronometer-certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres.

The par épargne technique used for the pilot-inspired instrument panel is nearly exclusive to Breitling. Text is lightly cut into the dial and filled with enamel, which is then buffed flush with the dial surface, a cut above the lacquer painted dials of most watches.

The fashionable rubber strap and black steel clasp give the Navitimer a consummately appropriate feel. Whether diving or flying, at work or at play, this black beauty will get you home on time and in style.
