An extraordinarily appointed 16-acre compound with a star-studded past located in the Benedict Canyon neighborhood of Beverly Hills has landed on the open market for $85 million.

Fresh off her 1970s divorce from Sonny Bono, Cher picked up a private 4-acre plot and built a decked-out, 10,000-square-foot Egyptian-themed mansion on it. When Cher grew tired of the six-bedroom, six-bathroom property she sold it to actor/comedian Eddie Murphy in 1988 for $5.9 million.

Murphy added a screening room and completed some other renovations on the estate before he quickly tried to sell the home for $9 million in 1990. However, the home didn’t sell until 1995 and went for only $4 million to Mexican businessman Roberto Trouyet, resulting in an over $2-million loss for Murphy when including renovation and upkeep fees.

Trouyet sold the parcel for $6.395 million in 1997 to Raul and Vicki Walters, who came to money through building Wal-Mart stores and other developments around the Columbia, Missouri, area. The Walters went on to buy four of the surrounding properties over the years to bring the estate to its current size.

On top of adding on and renovating the main house, they also added a pair of large homes for guests and staff, a tennis court, equestrian facilities, and maintained the extensive grounds.

Listing materials show the main house stands at about 20,000 square feet. Also detailed is a nearly 7,000-square-foot Moroccan-themed guesthouse that holds four en-suite bedrooms, and the equestrian barn adds two more bedrooms and bathrooms and also boasts a safe room.

Raul Walters passed away in 2009, and Vicki recently downsized to a 9,300-square-foot condo in The Century building in Century City that she purchased for $22.5 million in 2015.
