To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its venture into racing, McLaren has come out with a special edition 570S made to look like the original M2B race car that started it all.

The M2B first appeared at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix, where it ran as high as sixth before bowing out due to an oil problem. Later that year, the M2B went on to finish sixth at the British GP, fifth at the United States GP, and eventually placed first at the Belgium Grand Prix to help establish the McLaren pedigree.

While it was decades after the M2B first roared down the track that McLaren became a household name with the creation of the legendary F1, the M2B was the first Formula 1 race car Bruce McLaren and his team created in 1966. McLaren has given the customized 570S the same paint scheme as the M2B with a central green stripe set on the white finish with silver edging.

Side-by-side, the M2B and the 570S somehow look similar all while featuring a completely different design at the same time. Kudos to McLaren for 50 years of speed and excellence.
