At some point in childhood, many people have created secret handshakes and knocks to offer entrance to clubs, forts, or treehouses. However, secret knocks are no longer child’s play.
Swan Solutions has created a unique new product called Knocki that allows users to create unique knock combinations to engage a variety of household tech. Knocki looks a lot like a silver-and-white hockey puck, and it does more than recognize special knocks.
The new device allows users to change the song they’re currently listening to, switch off the TV, and turn on and off the lights by “making every surface smart.”
If you’re wondering how it works, it’s simple. The device recognizes different knock patterns and connects them with a variety of outcomes or tasks. For example, two knocks could turn on the alarm system and four fast knocks could locate a resident’s phone.
Knocki runs on AAA batteries, connects to Wi-Fi, and is equipped with accelerometers to recognize the difference in knocks and knock patterns. For those worried about real knocks on a door, it has a “wake-up knock” so it isn’t triggered incorrectly. Knocki is currently set to recognize 10 different knock patterns.
Getting its start on Kickstarter, Knocki surpassed its $35,000 goal in just a little more than an hour. In fact, as of publication, it’s now raised over $840,000 with 15 days left in the campaign. Interested buyers can purchase Knocki for the Kickstarter special price of $69.
