Audi has unveiled its new 2017 A5 and S5 coupe models, and although they look quite similar to their predecessors, they’ve been tweaked with some great upgrades.
The luxury auto brand announced the A5 will have both gas and diesel engine options, but as has happened in the past, it is expected that the A5s that come stateside will only be offered in the gas-powered versions.
Like the outgoing A5, the new coupe boasts a 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in the base model with a slight boost in the power output. Audi hasn’t released specs on the new A5 powerplant yet, but we know the A4 went from 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque to 252 hp and 273 pound-feet, so it is likely the new A5 will see a similar jump.
As for the S5, the sportier coupe offers the same 3.0-liter, V6 engine as its predecessor, but instead of 333 ponies, the power source now sends 354 hp to all four wheels thanks to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system. This extra power shaves 0.2 seconds off of the outgoing S5’s 0-to-60 mph time, meaning the new S5 makes the sprint in just 4.7 seconds.
While not much more is known about the 2017 A5 and S5 models, just looking at the pictures shows both coupes have refined and powerful styling and incorporate Audi’s new corporate grill quite smoothly.
The 2017 coupes will launch in European markets this fall, and it is expected that the A5 and S5 will be available in the U.S. by early 2017.
