Fitness wearables brand Pebble has just raised more than $10 million through Kickstarter in less than a week. The tech brand used the platform to introduce its two updated smartwatches and a lightweight new device.
What makes the new 3G-connected device dubbed the Pebble Core so unique is the fact that it’s completely separate from a smartphone, meaning it works more independently than some of Fitbit’s or Apple’s similar products. It’s also “hackable,” so developers have free license to create software for the tracker.
Pebble core isn’t meant to be worn on the wrist. Instead, it clips on to armbands or hip pouches, and even though it works while disconnected from a smartphone, it syncs GPS data and can stream music through Spotify.
Meanwhile, the Pebble 2 and Time 2 are the new updated heart-rate enabled devices that both feature built-in activity tracking and a variety of health tools. Pebble users will enjoy multi-day battery life, readable displays both inside and outside, and water resistance for up to nearly 100 feet. Both devices are compatible with Android and iOS smartphones.
Pebble will ship the Pebble 2 and Time 2 by the end of 2016. The Core will ship in January of 2017.
