Nemo, an Italian lighting design firm, has just brought back Le Corbusier’s Borne Béton lamp. The piece originally designed by the Swiss architect Le Corbusier in 1952 was reissued just in time to be unveiled at this year’s Milan Design Week.

As part of Nemo’s 2016 collection, it’s no surprise that the brand reintroduced the cement lamp since the original inspired several other creations. The newest incarnation of the Béton lamp is available in two sizes, a small desktop option and a larger outdoor lamp.

Le Corbusier is known as one of the pioneers of Modernist architecture and originally created the Béton lamp to light the walkways at his Unité d’habitation de Marseille.

“It is an incredible lamp, summarising all Le Corbusier’s ideals regarding lighting: a pure yet functional volume, whose shape is plastic but efficient thanks to its massive concrete reflector shape,” said Valentina Folli, Nemo’s head of design.

The lamp is produced much like the original was with the addition of an updated LED board and is the ninth Corbusier-designed lamp to be produced by Nemo. Past creations include a curving brass floor lamp called Escargot and the Projecteur light made for India’s Chandigarh High Court in 1954.
