Actor Richard Gere is really hoping to sell his Sag Harbor, New York, home. The price of the star’s expansive property has been cut nearly 50 percent, down from its initial price of $65 million to $36.5 million.
The estate known as “Strongheart” is actually three combined lots spanning 6.3 acres of waterfront land over Mashomack Preserve and Peconic Bay. In addition to the impressive home, the lot includes a teahouse, a sandy beach, and a 240-foot-long private, deep-water dock.
Located around five minutes from downtown Sag Harbor, Gere’s 19,000-square-foot main home was built in 1902 and purchased by the actor (plot by plot) for $11.3 million between 2005 and 2008.
The home is energy efficient and geothermal with rolling lawns, lush gardens, oak trees, a basketball court, an outdoor fireplace pavilion, and a 60-foot heated pool overlooking the bay. In addition to the expansive property, downtown Sag Harbor is so charming that it even made an appearance in a few chapters of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.”
