BMW has taken the future of fuel-efficient luxury cars to a new level with the i8, and now Italian tuner Garage Italia Customs has created a one-off version of the plug-in hybrid dubbed the Futurism Edition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW in Italy.
The i8 features materials and technology that look like it belongs on a spaceship rather than a BMW, right down to the artificial exhaust noise when it takes off. So GIC decided to give the Futurism Edition a little bit of a different feel by looking to the past by re-styling the futuristic model with the work of a Futurism artist.
The Milan-located design house equipped the car with a vinyl wrap inspired by Giacomo Balla’s 1909 painting “Street Light,” and like the original oil painting, the i8’s exterior boasts a crisp flurry of colorful strokes.
The Futurism Edition was featured at the 2016 Mille Miglia race, where it ran behind a BMW 328 driven by BMW Italia CEO Sergio Solero.
