General Electric Company CEO Jeffrey Immelt has listed his New Canaan, Connecticut, mansion on the open market for $5.5 million.

With Thomas Edison’s former company set to move its headquarters from Fairfield, Connecticut, to Boston, Massachusetts, Immelt is basically being forced to move on from the 10,458-square-foot, 6-bedroom home he purchased in 2001, which was the same year he took over as GE’s top executive.

The three-story stone and clapboard house is situated on four acres of trees and rolling lawns, and features a pond complete with a fountain.

Immelt’s new pad in Boston is quite a bit smaller, with the triplex measuring in at 3,565 square feet, and is located near the ever-beautiful Boston Public Garden, which might help GE’s top dog cope with the loss of his own acreage. The space was listed for $8 million before Immelt scooped it up for an undisclosed fee.

Immelt praised Boston’s proximity to a well-educated incoming work force thanks to a plethora of the country’s top colleges located in or near the city when he announced GE’s move from its Connecticut headquarters. It’s possible that one day one of those bright minds might find success like Immelt, with GE reportedly paying its CEO $33 million last year.
