Bowers & Wilkins has been tweaking and tuning its speakers to make a perfect sound for more than 35 years now, and while its 800 Series Diamond units that debuted last year was thought to be as close to perfect as possible, it now has a better model, the 800 D3.
The biggest difference in the 800 D3 are twin 10-inch Aerofoil bass drivers with a carbon-fiber construction to help minimize distortion and improve sound. Last year’s best, the 802 D3, featured 8-inch drivers, meaning the 800 D3 can get that much more of a clearer, deeper sound than its predecessor.
The new bass drivers are also benefitted by a new higher specification motor unit and upgraded magnets to give the 800 D3 more control than the rest of the B&W lineup.
Bowers & Wilkins didn’t let any detail go unnoticed when it upgraded to the D3, with even the dustcaps receiving a new design to help reduce resonance.
The 800 D3 will be available for $15,000 starting in July.
