Luxury furniture manufacturer Onecollection has announced the relaunch of a beautiful 1956 chair by Finn Juhl. Originally designed for British entrepreneur C W F France, the FJ 136 chair is sure to fit in any modern home.

Featuring an organically curved wooden frame and a separate upholstered backrest and seat, the redesign was crafted with the American market in mind and a simpler construction for industrial production.

The unique piece played a big role in the popularization of Danish design, and Juhl’s work is considered iconic in the world of 20th-century Danish design.

The simple and sleek chair is so important to the international market for Danish furniture that its success and impact on the market is even addressed in a new book. “The story about France is part of the great Danish design history,” said Onecollection director Henrik Sørensen, who founded the company in 1990.

Although Juhl passed in 1981, Onecollection received permission to rename FJ 136 to the France chair, which is now available from Triode in oak, beech, or black-stained versions with leather or fabric upholstery.
