The new Porsche Cayman is following the same trend as its sibling, the Boxster, with the same new 718 label and the same turbocharged engine changes.

The 718 Cayman swaps out its former 2.7- and 3.4-liter boxer flat-six engine choices for a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 300 horses and a turbocharged 2.5-liter version in the S edition that pumps out 350 hp. And though smaller in size, both of the new engines boast an increase of 25 horsepower over the naturally aspirated power sources they are replacing.

Both the base and the S versions of the 718 Cayman gain 37 more pound-feet of torque, bringing their total outputs to 280 and 309 pound-feet, respectively.

The new 718 Cayman is pretty quick too. The 2.0-liter edition can hit 60 mph from a stop in 4.5 seconds while the S version shaves half a second off of that time. That time is just a shade slower than the new Audi TT RS, which is the fellow German brand’s answer to the Cayman. Porsche has also beefed up the suspension, given the new Cayman larger brakes, widened the rear wheels, and given the 718 a bold new interior.

Porsche will offer the new 718 Cayman in America starting this fall. The base model will start at $54,950, and the S will run for $67,350.
