Aston Martin has unveiled that it will release a limited-edition, racing-inspired Vantage GT8 variant, just like it did with the earlier Vantage GT12. Only 150 editions will be built, with none coming to North America.
The special GT8 has been offered to select customers, who only received a sketch depicting the car, as the British automaker wanted to keep the special project secret until it was released.
The GT8 is based on the Vantage V8 and features a 4.7-liter engine that creates 448 horsepower, which is a slight increase from the regular car’s specs. Thanks to the body being made out of carbon fiber, the GT8 earns the title of the lightest and most powerful Vantage V8 ever built. Aston Martin has given this special GT8 a body design that is race-bred and not just for show.
The GT8 will be offered with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed Sportshift II paddle-shift transmission, depending on what the driver wants out of the machine. There are also additional weight-shedding options like an available carbon fiber roof and side and rear windows made out of polycarbonate instead of glass. All comfort hasn’t been abandoned in the quest for speed, as the car will still feature A/C and audio systems.
Aston has offered three optional “Halo” paint schemes, either China Grey with blue, Stratus White with green, or Stirling Green combined with lime.
Prices start at $233,880 and deliveries will begin in late 2016.
