Hennessey Performance Engineering has been known to push the boundaries of the vehicles it gets its hands on, and to celebrate the tuning firm’s 25th anniversary it set yet another speed record in the Guinness World Records book.

A couple of years ago the Venom GT Spyder coupe hit a 270.4 mph speed at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and became the fastest production car in the world, and ever since then the tuner’s founder, John Hennessey, has wanted to try to set the mark with the convertible version of the car.

And now he has. Hennessey’s Venom GT Spyder officially claimed the crown as the fastest convertible on the globe with a 265.6 mph dash down a runway in Texas last month.

The droptop Venom GT can also hit 60 mph from a stop in just 2.4 seconds and reach 200 mph in an even more impressive 13.0 seconds. It can do all this thanks to a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that sends 1,451 horsepower and 1,287 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed transmission.

Bugatti previously held the previous convertible record. Its Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse topped out at 254 mph back in 2013.
