After much speculation, Acura released a racing version of its NSX supercar at the 2016 New York Auto Show, the NSX GT3, even though it won’t be track-ready until sometime next year.

The GT3 has the same 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine as the regular NSX, but instead of the all-wheel drive system the stock model sports, the new Acura features a simpler rear-wheel drive system. Also, it is unlikely that the GT3 is a hybrid like the normal NSX, though Acura didn’t confirm this at the show.

Acura has also tweaked the body of the NSX to make the GT3 much more aerodynamic. The new racing model also has a large rear spoiler, all to make it fly faster down the track.

It is expected that the NSX GT3 will replace the TLX models that currently represent Acura in races in Europe as well as the Pirelli World Challenge here in America. Acura plans on testing throughout 2016 in hopes of making the GT3 competition-ready for next year.
