With BMW hitting the century mark as a company, the automaker offers car enthusiasts a look into the future, 100 years into the future to be exact, with the Vision Next 100 concept.
The German car brand offered a ton of food for thought with its futuristic vehicle, including 4D printing, which is a quick-build process which the company believes will be an option in as soon as 30 years. BMW also says cars will soon all feature OLED displays and then will transition to the windshield-as-display concept that is displayed in the Next 100.
As for the autonomous driving argument, BMW has toed the line a bit by offering its Boost and Ease driving options. Boost is a driver-controlled cockpit with the autonomous options helping the driver in as many ways as it possibly can. Ease is a completely autonomous driving form that literally takes away the main steering yoke and even moves the center console to give the driver more room for optimal comfort.
The copper-toned exterior looks like some sort of carbon fiber fabric, even extending beyond the wheelbase to cover the wheels and create the best possible aerodynamic performance. The Next 100 also sports wing doors, as all future cars should.
The only disappointing aspect of the Next 100 is the fact that BMW didn’t release any drivetrain information. Then again, 100 years is a long time, and it’s understandably hard to bet on any of the power sources we see in current cars, so BMW might just be hedging some bets in that department.
