Samsung has decided to enter into the 360-degree imaging market with the release of its Gear 360 camera, which will be available in the second fiscal quarter of 2016.
The Gear 360 features a set of fisheye lenses with 15 megapixel sensors to capture 3840×1920 high-resolution footage. This footage can sync to a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, shared on social media, and also can be uploaded to Google Street View.
The Gear 360 is the opposite of bulky and tough. The camera is portable, but is only splash proof and dust resistant, meaning it needs a gentle hand when being used and isn’t meant for harsh conditions. Samsung has equipped the Gear 360 with a microSD slot (up to 120GB) and an easy way to switch batteries for an optimal user experience.
Pricing information has yet to be revealed by Samsung, which also announced the planned release of its S7 and S7 Edge smartphones at the same time as the Gear 360.
