After the idea of a fully electric 1,000-horsepower Aston Martin was hinted at by CEO Andy Palmer just a couple of months ago, the reality of it is already taking shape. Based on the usually-V12 Rapide S model, Aston just unveiled the electric RapidE in England.
Unfortunately for enthusiasts of the exclusive car brand, not many of the specifics of the RapidE were revealed. In fact, it’s unclear whether Palmer and Aston delivered on the 1,000-hp dream, which would surely beat the 762-hp Tesla Model S and possibly the power of Porsche’s Mission E concept, which are the two cars the Aston Martin would surely square off with.
With the reveal of the RapidE, Palmer said he believes electric vehicles are “an intrinsic part” of his company’s future model lineup. He also divulged that Aston Martin has joined with Chinese investment firm ChinaEquity for the next step of the RapidE project.
This is a big change for a luxury brand known for its appearances in the iconic James Bond films.
