Billionaire Stan Kroenke made headlines recently with the decision to move his NFL franchise, the Rams, back to Los Angeles. Now his name is associated with other big news: He is the court-appointed buyer of Waggoner Ranch in Texas, which, at more than 510,000 acres, is the largest ranch in the United States.
This is the first sale of the 167-year-old ranch, which was on the market for $725 million. The property features thousands of cattle, hundreds of horses and oil wells, and 30,000 acres of farmland.
The historic property that once belonged to cattle and oil baron W.T. Waggoner was caught up in years of legal battles before being put up for sale by his heirs in 2014.
The ranch operations will be folded into the responsibilities of the U.S. division of Kroenke Ranches, which is an affiliate of Kroenke’s Sports Enterprises and the official company that owns the Rams, the Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), and the Colorado Rapids (MLS).
