As living spaces become smaller, the need for screens to become more manageable and portable grows. Sony has created the answer to these problems with its new portable Ultra Short Throw projector.

The new projector allows owners the freedom to cast content from 22 inches to 80 inches with a smaller focus lens and optical modules. The new projector is small at only about 4 inches wide, but it still packs speakers to produce sound for its video content. It also sports a two-hour battery life when taken on the go.

The short throw projector uses a special Sony app for smartphone and Bluetooth connectivity to display clocks, weather, and movie posters when it’s not being used as a streaming device. When paired with an HDMI cable, Sony’s new projector can connect to Blu-Ray players and computers to stream and display content. This is all done with the secondary accessory of the system, which then wirelessly sends the signal to the projector.

While Sony also makes a much larger (but not portable) short throw projector, this new device seems to make a more seamless integration into smaller spaces. It will also cost a lot less, running potential buyers about $800. The device will be available in the U.S. starting this summer.
