Canon’s new EOS-1D X Mark II has been designed for professionals who need a camera that can excel at both photography and videography in the field. However, it can also serve amateurs who can afford it quite well.
The EOS-1D X II is made of magnesium alloy and is weather resistant. Canon claims the new camera is even more weatherproof than its previous EOS DSLR models. Additionally, thanks to new image processors, Canon’s new beast has a continuing shooting speed of 14 frames per second and in Live Mode can reach up to 16 fps.
The EOS-1D X II has an ISO range of 100-51,200, so Canon’s new camera isn’t exactly designed for low-light photography, but it can expand to 30, 102,400, 204,800 and 409,600 if needed.
Canon has also equipped its newest member of the EOS-1D series with a 360,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor, which improves facial recognition, tracking, and even makes nature scenes better. The EOS-1D X II can even adjust to flickering light sources that are often found in places like gymnasiums.
As for its video capabilities, the EOS-1D X II has the ability to capture video at 4K 60p or Full HD at 120p, with the 4K video option allowing owners to capture 8.8-megapixel still JPEGs from a video frame.
The new Canon doesn’t have built-in Wi-Fi, but does sport an onboard GPS for geotagging and synchronizing purposes. The EOS-1D X II is set to go on sale in April with a $5,999 price tag, with Canon asking $6,299 for the Premium Kit option (which adds a 64GB CFast card).
