Canon is known for its high-quality camcorders, so it comes as no surprise that the new Vixia G40 is garnering a lot of attention.

Although Canon unveiled four new Vixia consumer models at CES 2016, the Vixia HF G40 stood out as the ideal camera for amateur filmmakers. Similar to its predecessor, the G30, it sports a 20x wide-angle lens and a Digic DV 4 image processor.

The HD CMOS PRO image sensor is new however, along with upgraded manual controls with customizable buttons, a rocking zoom button, and test tone features. Capable of recording Full 1080p HD videos at up to 60p in both MP4 and AVCHD formats, it also sports slow- and fast-motion modes.

Additionally, the camcorder is designed for longer shooting with a higher-capacity battery, add-on accessories, and advanced connectivity options. A 3.5-inch OLED touch-screen finder, dual SD card slots, Linear PCM audio recording, and a lens with a five-axis system all improve filming capabilities.

Amateur filmmakers can expect the Canon G40 to hit shelves in February with a $1,300 price tag.
