One of the belles of the ball at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show came from a company that helped build Motor City. Automaker Lincoln just unveiled its 2017 Continental sedan.
In what is possibly a fresh start for Ford’s luxury brand, the 2017 Continental that impressed in Detroit is bold and futuristic with an arch-shaped grille, new headlights, and chromed surfaces to claim a classic yet luxurious look.
Front passengers are treated to Perfect Position Seats that can be adjusted up to 30 ways, including heating, cooling, and massage settings. Of course the Continental comes with leather upholstery on the seats, center console, and dashboard, in addition to a natural wood or aluminum trim.
The announced engine is a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 that comes packed with 400 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque with an automatic transmission.
While less powerful engines are expected to come later in the production of the Continental, Lincoln won’t be adding an alternative drivetrain (such as a turbodiesel engine) because the car was designed to be as comfortable and quiet as possible, not to chase BMWs on the race track.
Built in Michigan, the 2017 Continental will go on sale in America this fall. The new Lincoln will also be sold in China.
