Among the plethora of innovative new creations that appeared at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, a new set of high-end hard drives stood out. Developed by Seagate technology’s LaCie brand, the new storage solutions feature USB-C connectors and aluminum enclosures.
Both the Chrome model by Neil Poulton and Porsche Design Drives by Porsche Design Studio made their debuts. The Chrome pays homage to a 1935 bronze statue from Constantin Brancusi and sports a chromed-zinc, mirror-polished body. Chrome also stands in a sleek dock thanks to neodymium magnets but easily detaches for travel.
The LaCie Chrome sports a similar silver design and looks much like a tilted rectangle. Aside from being stylish, it also features 1 TB of memory for long-term storage and a blower that directs cool air into the unit to keep the drive safe.
The Porsche Design Drives have all-aluminum enclosures with 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB hard drives. Polished beveled edges sandblasted to perfection also means they’re nearly impervious to scratches and heat.
