Just two years ago Audi wowed at CES with its “virtual cockpit” that actually ended up going into production in the revamped TT. Now the Ingolstadt-based automaker is taking things to the next level with the introduction of the “virtual dashboard” at CES last week.
The “virtual dashboard” gets rid of the old gauges and infotainment suite and combines it into a digital display, incorporating an active-matrix organic LED (AMOLED) display with haptic feedback, much like a smartphone. This also means smartphones and smartwatches can now be connected to the dashboard with ease to give the driver complete control.
Audi expects the “virtual dashboard” will replace the “virtual cockpit” soon, with the main difference being the latter’s ability to adapt to the driver.
One vehicle that might receive this “virtual dashboard” is the Audi E-Tron Quattro, an electric all-wheel drive SUV that is expected to go on sale in 2018.
