The M4 GTS, the first BMW equipped with a water-injection system, took to Germany’s famed Nurburgring and quickly proved it was the fastest production model Bavarian Motor Works has ever made.
While it features the same twin-turbo, 3.0-liter V6 the standard M4 comes with, the GTS’ 1.3-gallon frost-proof water tank and pump injects a mist of dihydrogen monoxide into the engine collector before it enters the combustion chamber. The result: more speed and higher fuel efficiency.
The GTS’ water-injection system raises the output of the M4’s straight six from 425 hp to 496 hp and from 406 pound-feet of torque to an impressive 442 lb-ft.
The fastest production BMW ran the ‘Ring in 7:27:88, which bests the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia, Porsche Carrera GT, and even the McLaren MP4-12C.
All 700 of the M4 GTS models have already been sold.
