Samsung is looking to expand beyond the television space and the living room. The brand is working to become a staple in the smart home industry with the announcement of their all-new 2016 smart TVs.
All of the new 2016 smart TVs will be equipped with a SmartThings Hub, Samsung’s platform for home automation. Items that come with a SmartThings Hub can control the rest of the smart home.
Acting as a single platform for a variety of Samsung and third-party devices, the new smart TVs aim to control several different types of smart home devices all through a simple app, thus foregoing the need of individual controllers.
Individual hubs are available for $99 each, but these new TVs are equipped with a hub inside, which means customers won’t have to make a separate purchase.
Other brands compatible with SmartThings include select devices from Yale, Sonos, Philips, and GE.
