Earlier this fall the scientist mechanics at Weistec Engineering set a new quarter-mile speed record for the Mercedes-AMG GT by simply fine-tuning the engine.
Weistec souped up the already 503-hp, twin-turbocharged, 4-liter V8 engine of the GT with just under $10,000 of enhancements, including its own high-flow air filters, vent-to-air adapters, and a new mid-pipe and downpipe.
All said and done, these modifications add 147 more horses and an additional 257 pound-feet of torque.
With all of Weistec’s engineering, the AMG GT hit a top quarter-mile time of 10.8 seconds, going a little over 126 mph, which is a full half-second faster than the factory GT. Weistec plans on adding a turbocharger upgrade to break its own record.
