Volvo has undergone a series of ownership and investment changes in the past few years, but the luxury automaker seems to be on the up-and-up after the introduction of their range-topping SUV, the 2016 XC90. Now Volvo has just unveiled its 2017 S90, its newest large sedan.
The XC90 and S90 share a similar structure, powertrains, and electronics interface systems, but the new sedan features incredible advances in collision avoidance and autonomous driving.
With a longer wheelbase and a slightly wider frame, the S90 will only be available with four cylinders, since the brand has capped all their engines at four cylinders going forward. Don’t let the cylinder count fool you, though.
Volvo’s S90 is powered by a T8 Twin Engine, which is an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid powertrain which drives in three modes. The EV reaches speeds up to 75 mph, while the Hybrid switches between gas and electric power, and the Power uses both to produce 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.
