Mercedes-Benz has released information on the 2017 GLS-Class, the new model to replace the outgoing GL. Consumers will get a first glimpse of the SUV in the metal later this month at the LA Motor Show.
As part of Mercedes-Benz’s SUV line, the GLS uses a design language similar to the brand’s other new vehicles. The interior receives a modern update from the previous GL lines, including a newly designed infotainment system and standard leather upholstery on all models and five different trim options in the comfort-focused cabin.
Under the hood the GLS400 houses a twin-charged 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 329 horsepower. The GLS350d is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 255 hp and the GLS550 comes out with a 4.7-liter V8 with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
But the granddaddy of them all is the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 with its hand-built 5.5-liter V8 with dual turbochargers. The high-powered vehicle unleashes 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque using a seven-speed automatic transmission controlled by shift paddles.
The 2017 GLS-Class will go on sale in the U.S. starting in December, with the first deliveries scheduled to start in March 2016.
