Another futuristic new aircraft has hit the market. The ICON A5 is a sport aircraft built with an emphasis on functionality and safety. Pilots are so impressed by the new machine that it’s already sold out through 2019.
With incredible advancements in spin reduction, the ultra-safe plane might be worth the wait. ICON co-founders Kirk Hawkins and Steen Strand focused engineering on reducing in-flight spin which happens when an aircraft reduces its velocity so much that it can actually fall out of the sky.
Research indicates that as many as 41-percent of pilot-related deaths are connected to spin, so the pair created the first Spin-Resistant Airframe to help reduce incidences of spin.
In addition to its revolutionary safety technology, the A5 sports east-to-read gauges and intuitive controls to keep the pilot’s eyes on the sky rather than on the control panel.
The aircraft is also incredibly portable with foldable wings so it can fit in a trailer for easy transport.
Priced at $194,000, it could be a while until interested customers receive their new plane since the waiting list is currently set at around 1,600 people. Yet, if the ICON A5 proves to be as safe as advertised, it could definitely be worth the wait.
