Anyone who bought or built a home between 2003 and 2007 knows it wasn’t the best market. Even former Sun Microsystems chief Scott McNealy isn’t immune from the lasting effects of the real estate crash since he just took a major loss on his California mansion.

Although it’s not clear exactly how much McNealy spent on construction of the custom home in 2006, the listing says it cost much more than the asking price. After listing the 7,280-square foot home last year for $5.4 million, it finally sold for $4,275,000.

The incredible golden state home features an impressive three-story foyer and four large bedrooms. With an open floor plan complete with exposed wood beams and French doors leading to an immaculate patio, it’s the perfect spot for private, luxury living.

An outside living area with a kitchen, fireplace, and alfresco dining spot also adds to the beautiful estate.

McNealy is reportedly moving to Denver where he is taking over as CEO of social intelligence company Wayin.
