Dutch designer Zelf Koelman has made a unique clock that tells the time without the use of mechanical parts. The Ferrolic clock uses magnetized fluid controlled by electromagnets to display accurate time.

The unique ferrofluid is moved into numeric shape by what looks like magic, but is actually embedded electromagnets. A rectangular aluminum-framed screen holds the liquid and allows particles to move easily.

Ferrofluid is made up of suspended magnetic particles, so when the electromagnets are turned on, the fluid moves to where the magnetism is strongest and forms the numbers. Incredibly, users can control and customize the magnets using software on their computer.

Although the Ferrolic clock is still in development, Koelman plans to make a small number available for pre-order. The one-of-a-kind clocks will retail for $8,300.
